imagine. joe friday slamming back some suds while on duty. ben alexander was also in the original version of all quiet on the western front. besides being young he was so thin he was almost unrecognizable. ironic in view of appearance later in life.

After the proposed adaptation of "NIGHT BEAT" {"Out of the Night"}- Frank Lovejoy's radio show- attracted little interest in 1953, he, Don Sharpe and Warren Lewis came up with another idea- concering a tough, cynical private eye named "McGraw" [no first name]. This proposed pilot episode *did* become a series...but it took Sharpe & Lewis THREE YEARS to sell it.....to NBC (and sponsor Procter & Gamble), without Four Star's involvement. It lasted a season and a half {with a title change to "ADVENTURES OF McGRAW" towards the end}, through 1958.

"FOUR STAR PLAYHOUSE" was co-produced by Warren Lewis and agent Don W. Sharpe {who also represented the four stars featured in the series). In 1952, they joined forces with Dick Powell [also a Sharpe client] in creating "Four Star Television" {with Charles Boyer and David Niven}, and revived "FOUR STAR PLAYHOUSE" as a TV series. As for Bob Cummings, Sharpe also co-produced and sold NBC "MY HERO", his 1952-'53 TV sitcom. Loretta Young, of course, was later featured in her own TV anthology series, "brokered" by Don Sharpe, and co-produced by her and Tom Lewis ["Lewislor Productions"].
